Join us in Casteldaccia, in the province of Palermo, on the northwest side of Sicily, for a retreat that includes a five-day writing workshop with the amazing Mary Morris. Come for research, rejuvenation or a well-deserved escape from reality. Whatever you call it, you’ll find that the best way to discover your story is go out and live it.

As with all our retreats, you just need to get yourself to the final destination, and we’ll take care of the rest—well, the complicated stuff that is. The writing, exploring and creating… that’s up to you. Your home away from home is centrally located in Casteldaccia, a small non-touristy town near the sea. You’ll share space in the home with like-minded writers and truly enjoy the Italian experience. Here’s a few photos:

Whether you’re working on something new or putting the finishing touches on a work in progress, we’ll give you plenty of freedom, with just the right amount of structure and accountability. Spend the afternoon writing on the beach. Capture the essence of a new character during a stroll through the nearby village. Experience the treasures of Sicily on a private guided bus tour—compliments of Write By The Water.

 You will enjoy an 8 night, 9 day stay in an authentic Italian villa with shared amenities.  We’ll provide assistance with airport transfers, trips into town and a day trip  day trip excursion with a private bus and guide for those who may be interested.

We are currently quoting a $950 USD room, board and workshop fee. Fees are based on a sliding scale in accordance with the number of attendees. (the more attendees, the less you pay. The house can hold 10 people, and we must have a minimum of 2 attendees.) Please ask about housing for your non-writing companion.

This unique retreat allows for both quiet, uninterrupted writing time, plus five days of productive morning group workshops with our Author in Residence, Mary Morris.

Mary is author of over fourteen novels, short story collections and travel memoirs. Her work has been translated into Italian, Dutch, Spanish, German, Swedish and Japanese. She’s not only a very talented woman with lots of stories to share, but also the winner of the Rome Prize. She lives in New York where she is a professor of writing at Sarah Lawrence College. 

As a Write By The Water attendee, you will also be given the option of submitting a section of a work in progress in advance to receive a detailed critique from Mary Morris during your time in Sicily.
