Writers Unite at Santa Rosa Beach: Day One

Arrived at Santa Rosa Beach just before noon. The house couldn’t be more perfect for our week-long adventure with our small group of writers. Our cast of characters for the retreat includes writers from as nearby as Panama City and as far away as British Columbia, Canada. Yes, with Colleen’s application, we are able to say we have writers from all over North America! International attendees…not that’s something!

Colleen and Nicole were the first to arrive at  “Paradise.” It was game on — day  one — all the planning and promoting complete, we were ready to get started. There was a distinct energy in the air. The combination of Florida sunshine and the promise of a new adventure will do that, I suppose.

After some conversation, a tour of the house, and some great “meet and greet” conversations, everyone went off to write. The house design is perfect, with quiet porches tucked away on three levels. Lots of room to write, and to gather at the end of the day to talk about the process and learn from each other.

Linda and Martha arrived late afternoon to complete our house-full of writers. We spent the early part of the evening talking, eating, laughing, and wine-drinking. The conversation was easy.

After reading through everyone’s pre-assigned writing exercises, the group started to fade. It was time to call it a day. A successful day — but it was time to bring it to an end.

Day one of the WBW retreat couldn’t have been more perfect. It was wonderful to finally meet everyone. The week in sunny Florida promises to be a hit.
